A Travel Memory Worth Keeping: When a Couple Crosses the Atlantic for a Few Hours in Switzerland

Some sessions start long before I show up on location. This one began with a message exchange with a couple visiting from the United States, on vacation in Switzerland, who wanted something a little more considered than the usual phone photos to bring back home. No special occasion to celebrate — just the wish to leave with real images of this moment, in a setting worth the detour.

We met on an old stone terrace, overtaken by ivy, perched above Lake Geneva with the mountains as a backdrop. The kind of place you don't come across every day, one that gives the photos an almost timeless feel — the carved balustrade, the vegetation slowly reclaiming the stone, the late-afternoon light filtering through the trees.

The red dress did the rest: against such a mineral, green setting, it draws the eye without effort, adding movement, colour, an energy that contrasts with the stillness of the landscape. A spontaneous dance, an almost theatrical dip by the lake, a glance exchanged on the balustrade — nothing was forced, it all came from the simple pleasure of being there together, in a place that doesn't exist back home.

Is It Worth Booking a Photoshoot While Traveling?

It's a question I get every so often from travelers passing through the Vaud Riviera: is it really worth organizing a photoshoot during a trip, instead of just relying on photos snapped along the way?

What I notice is that these are often the images that become the most precious over time — not because the trip itself was unusual, but because someone took the time to actually capture it properly. An hour or two, in a well-chosen spot, at the end of the day when the light is at its best, is enough to bring home photos that have nothing to do with ordinary vacation snapshots.

For a couple traveling from far away, it's also a chance to bring home images of the place itself — the view, the architecture, the local scenery — woven together with their own story. These stop being vacation photos and become photos that say "us, here, that day."
