Wedding in the vineyards

A wedding under weather pressure in Lavaux

Clouds were gathering over Lavaux, but nothing could dampen the sparkle in their eyes as they gazed at each other by the lake...

For this civil wedding at the Maison Jaune in Cully, we had a few scares before the big day. The weather forecast looked terrible.

We met three months before the wedding to plan the day. The young couple came to my studio to discuss the schedule for the day, their wishes, and their fears, which were mainly related to the weather. They gave me carte blanche to choose the location for the couple's photos, a gesture of trust that I really appreciated. A wedding in the vineyards promises to be spectacular.

The day was mainly taking place in Lavaux, so I took the time to do some thorough research to find sheltered alternatives in case it rained. Having found a few charming locations nearby, I was able to present them with a plan B with a light heart.

Meeting with the bride and groom and preparing for the photo shoot

We began the day with a special moment: meeting the bride and groom alone before the ceremony. This “first look” took place on the shores of Lake Geneva, in a peaceful spot, away from prying eyes.

First glances on the shores of Lake Geneva

They discovered each other in their wedding attire in an intimate and natural setting. The soft light of the clouds and the tranquility of the lake provided the perfect backdrop for capturing this pure emotion. These moments stolen from the hustle and bustle of the day are among my favorites to photograph.

A civil ceremony at the Maison Jaune in Cully

The rest of the event took place at the Maison Jaune in Cully, a charming building with a wedding hall located under the eaves.

This room presented an interesting technical challenge: mixed lighting (warm and cold) and strong backlighting due to the small window at the back. I therefore adapted my equipment and settings to recreate a warm, intimate, and natural atmosphere, faithful to the emotion of the moment.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom found themselves directly on the street. A little further away, a small garden offered a softer and more romantic backdrop. We therefore combined the two locations to vary the atmospheres.

Group photos by the lake: simplicity and naturalness

After the ceremony, we gathered the family and friends for group photos, still by the lake. The light was soft, the atmosphere relaxed, and everyone was able to enjoy the moment before moving on to the rest of the festivities.

An aperitif in the vineyards with a view of Lavaux

The reception was held in a magical location, nestled in the heart of Lavaux. Despite the threatening sky, the sun played hide-and-seek with the clouds, creating a cinematic, almost unreal light, perfect for a few candid shots between drinks.

Couple photos in the Lavaux vineyards

The couple's photo shoot continued in the vineyards, just above the lake. It's a setting I never tire of: the rows of vines, the curves of the land, the changing light on the water... The bride and groom, radiant, brought all the life and simplicity needed to create sincere and elegant images.

A day filled with emotion, nature, and changing light

This civil wedding in Cully was a beautiful demonstration that the weather isn't everything. With a little foresight, flexibility, and cooperation with the bride and groom, it's possible to create powerful images, regardless of the light.
